The Outlanders
Summary
A self initiated brand for The Outlanders, my own D&D group. I treated the party like a multimedia franchise and built its identity around a real 80s visual language.

Context
The Outlanders is my tabletop group. The name points to where the characters come from. I wanted to give the party and its story the treatment a real franchise gets: a name, a mark, a world, a look. A personal, non commercial project, designed solo.

Insights
A personal project with no client is the right place to commit hard to one reference. Here that meant real 80s design, not a nostalgic wink at it.
The Problem
Two things had to be true at once. It had to read as authentically 1980s, and it had to look professionally made, not like a costume. It also had to land with the whole group, since everyone had a stake in how the party was represented.
The Solution
I built the system around genuine 80s typography and design conventions, studied rather than copied. The identity covers the group's name and mark, its visual world, and applied pieces, with existing fantasy illustration used as reference and in some compositions. I designed all of it.
The Outcome
The whole group took to it. It stays a personal, conceptual project, and one of the earliest pieces in my portfolio that still holds up.
